ARTnewsWashingtonIn an August 28 letter to the Smithsonian Board of Regents recently made public, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and White House Domestic Policy Council Director Vince Haley wrote that executive agencies “cannot in good conscience continue to support the Smithsonian under current leadership” by loaning artifacts, enabling procurement, or making discretionary grants. The letter alleges possible federal antidiscrimination-law violations tied to institutional culture and asks Regents to meet administration officials. ARTnews, CNN, The Independent and others reported the escalation on 2–3 September; outlets said the Smithsonian had not immediately commented.
ABC NewsWashingtonKennedy Center delays Trump facade inscription until at least 8 OctoberAfter a 27 August 2026 hearing, Justice Department lawyers told a federal judge the Kennedy Center board will not effectuate its plan to add a “Renovated and Restored by President Donald J. Trump” inscription to the facade before 8 October 2026. U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper had pressed for more time; an earlier May ruling had blocked a full rename of the performing-arts center.
