Turkey announces an 11,000-year-old human-and-leopard statue from Karahan Tepe

Culture minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said archaeologists found a 70-centimetre composite statue of a human sitting on a leopard during 2026 excavations at Karahan Tepe near Şanlıurfa, on a bench in a three-metre stone-floored structure. The ministry called the style unlike any previously encountered at the site.
