VMFA announces 3,314 recent acquisitions, including Quick-to-See Smith bronze

VMFA’s Aug 31 press says it added 3,314 works over the past year (808 purchases, 2,506 gifts), including a landmark 1,989-photograph gift from Joy of Giving Something, Inc. Highlights include Jaune Quick-to-See Smith’s monumental bronze Making Medicine: Coyote (Going Forward, Looking Back) (2024–25), now on view in American Art’s Waterways; Paul Signac’s 1882 oil The Haystack (first Signac oil in the collection), slated for The Impressionist Revolution (opens 14 Nov 2026); plus Theresa Bernstein’s Sun, Sand, and Sea (1916), Roberto Lugo’s Roundel with Boy from the Hood (2023), and Tuan Andrew Nguyen’s Scars (2025). Many will appear after the McGlothlin Wing II expansion.
