Two Eastman Johnson paintings stolen in 1978 recovered in Connecticut

Shannon’s Fine Art Auctioneers in Milford says two Eastman Johnson works stolen from New York galleries in 1978 — Mary and Her Lamb (from Kenneth Lux Gallery) and The Young Mother (from Hirschl & Adler Galleries) — were identified in an estate collection by Long Island dealer Brandon Levine and returned to their rightful owners after Art Loss Register confirmation. Shannon’s owner Sandra Germain coordinated the recovery; similar Johnson works have sold in the six-figure range. ARTnews, NBC Connecticut, News 12 and NBC New York reported the return in early September 2026.
