Valerie Hillings leaves NCMA to lead Guggenheim Abu Dhabi

North Carolina’s Department of Natural and Cultural Resources announced on 4 August 2026 that NCMA director and foundation CEO Dr. Valerie Hillings is leaving to become inaugural director of Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, announced to open 11 December 2026. Katherine White became interim NCMA director after Hillings’s 19 August departure; DNCR said a search firm will recruit the next Raleigh director.
