Mildred Howard wins 2026 Artists’ Legacy Foundation Artist Award

Bay Area artist Mildred Howard is the 2026 Artists’ Legacy Foundation Artist Award recipient, the foundation confirms on its Artist Award page. The unrestricted $25,000 merit prize goes annually to a painter or sculptor; 2026 jurors were Anna Katz (SFMOMA), Jessica Bell Brown (ICA at VCU), and Mary Weatherford. Howard’s Oakland Museum of California retrospective runs through Oct 18. Prior winners include Marie Watt (2024), Jaune Quick-to-See Smith (2023), and Howardena Pindell (2019).
