Hamburg court convicts pair in looted Egyptian antiquities case

A Hamburg court on Monday, 24 August 2026, convicted two unnamed defendants of money laundering in a case over sales of ancient Egyptian objects, ordering them to turn over €32 million and pay fines of more than €90,000, ARTnews reported. Prosecutors described sales including Princess Henuttawy’s burial complex and objects tied to a Cleopatra bust and a Tutankhamun stele. The court did not publicly name the defendants.
