State Department explores selling the Kehinde Wiley embassy painting it removed

UPI reported on 28 August that the US State Department is consulting lawyers on whether it can sell Kehinde Wiley’s Young Artists After Siamesas 1960 after removing the taxpayer-commissioned work from the US Embassy in Santo Domingo. Ambassador Leah Campos posted video of the removal on 11 August. Vanity Fair’s 28 August report quotes Art in Embassies director Erin Scavino saying the same review could apply to other works and that an auction would be the most appropriate path, though she called any sale far in the future. The Art Newspaper covered the removal and sale exploration on 25 August.
