Vienna police say MAK necklace suspect may have carried a firearm

Austrian police continuing the search for two men in the 27 August 2026 daytime theft of a platinum Van Cleef & Arpels necklace with 673 diamonds from Vienna’s MAK said one suspect allegedly carried what investigators treat as a real firearm. Local reports on 28 August said the pair fled on foot toward Stadtpark and that the search is now national and international; the museum said the affected exhibition reopened after a police security review.
